Game of Thrones show all about
Game of Thrones is an HBO series that tells the story of a medieval country’s civil war. The series, which premiered in April 2011, is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos in a world where seasons drag on for years. When the story begins, a decade-long summer is ending, and the looms of winter fight as characters to claim the “Iron Throne”, the seat of the King of the Seven Kingdoms, the rule that all but the northern tip of Westeros Ruled over. In the show, “Sit on the Iron Throne” is a rule equivalent to “Rule Westeros”.
The show is divided into three major plot lines. The first Westeros cover battles between the Lords of the continent – most notably the members of the Baratheon, Lannister and Stark families – who are involved in the Battle of the Iron Throne. Second, following the rise of Daenerys Targaryen, the last member of an exiled family as he builds an army at Esso to reclaim the throne. The third plot takes place north of Westeros amid the Night Watch, an armed unit guarding a 300-mile-long, 70-foot-high wall that protects the rest of the continents that lurk there.

Where did the show come from?
The story told in Game of Thrones was adapted by series writers David Benioff and DB Weiss from George RR Martin’s fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire. Martin published the first book of the series, Game of Thrones, in 1996. The book was originally the first part of a trilogy, one after each of the three major plot lines, but as Martin wrote, the story expanded into what he now expects to be a seven-book series.
Martin’s novels are not light-read. All five published books are over 700 pages long, and Martin names over 1,000 characters during the story. The books are full of blood, revenge and sex. Martin kills the major favorite characters without flaring them, and reveals the hidden inner workings of a society built on violence.
The series began with a small fan base, but as Martin published more books and the scope of his fictional world grew, his story’s popularity grew. Today, Martin’s novel is translated into 20 languages and sold over 24 million copies in the United States alone. The HBO series is one of several spinoffs from Martin’s epic story, including a comic book, video game, and several historical presales.
