BRB (Be Right Back) is one of the more polite online abbreviations; Respectfully let the fellow partner know that you are taking a brief leave from your keyboard.
Traditionally, however, BRB refers to a Big Red button, which is an important, non-descript button connected to a power, reset, burst, self-destruct, emergency shut-down, or ejection switch. The only real rule for BRB is “Do not press”, unless it is a very serious situation.
